It's not uncommon these days to meld literary icons with tarot -- but this is the first generally-available deck we're aware of that has pulled its literary inspiration from the works of Charles Dickens. From David Copperfield to Tiny Tim, characters familiar and obscure are lined up with the tarot archetypes -- with some historical milestones of Dickens' own life thrown in for good measure. The suits are named after their elemental equivalents -- Fire, Water, Air, and Earth -- and the court cards are dubbed Daughter, Son, Mother, and Father. The illustrations are in the style of Dickens' period, and unusually, are oriented lengthwise on the cards, "suggesting an open book or vista". The cards have gold gilt edging.
