The English Magic Tarot sports a bit of a split personality. Its ideology is rooted primarily in the tradition of the 19th century English occultists... but its imagery is inspired by 16th and 17th century English history. Not that the dichotomy matters much; the deck, while taking itself fairly seriously, feels kind of, well... fun. If you're new to tarot, the guidebook's reliance on the philosophies of the Victorian occultists may be a bit much at first -- but the cards themselves are perfectly approachable and functional for novices as well as experienced tarotists.
