The Mystical Dream Tarot

Dreams and dreamlike imagery are, unsurprisingly, the focus of this fluid, ever-so-slightly unorthodox deck. While completely usable as a traditional reading deck, the focus seems to lean a bit more toward meditative use. Author/creator Janet Piedilato has taken several liberties with the naming of the Majors, although the cards in this portion of the deck retain a one-to-one correspondence with more traditionally-titled decks. For example, The Empress is labeled "The Dream Carrier", while Death is titled "Wise Fox". The court cards also use non-traditional labels, with Page, Knight, Queen, and King being discarded in favor of Dreamer, Spirit, Lady, and Lord respectively. Artist Tom Duxbury's illustrations capture the surreal nature of dreams without wandering too far afield into abstract territory, making the symbolism of the cards very accessible.
