The Universal Tarot is Lo Scarabeo's non-copyright-infringing version of the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) images. Rendered in an ever-so-slightly updated / modern style than that of its inspiration source, artist Roberto de Angelis manages to make this deck completely accessible to those wedded to the RWS illustrations. As the Italian publisher's flagship "starter deck", the Universal has been published in several styles and formats, from the approx. 2" x 3" x 1" miniature edition to the 5" x 8" x 2" Professional Edition, a "Grand Trump" majors edition, a high-quality "premium" edition, a foil-stamped Golden Universal Tarot edition, a special clear plastic format designed to allow the cards to be overlapped entitled the Universal Transparent Tarot, and the "standard" edition packaged both with and without various companion guidebooks.
