Unpretentious black-and-white illustrations almost subtly fade into the background here, forcing the viewer to both step in closer to the tableaus, and mentally "fill in the blanks" of the image. The accompanying book provides great deal on each cards' associated symbol systems -- but the cards themselves remain refreshingly free of symbological clutter.
