Norse folklore and mythology are at the center of Wallace and Davies‘ Magical Nordic Tarot. Refreshingly, the deck does not lean into trying to pair up Norse gods and goddesses with particular majors or courts — not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s also been done many times before. Instead, the focus is more on the culture and world experience of the ancient Northern European peoples, using such symbolism (for example) as spirit animals and the northern lights. The deck’s pip cards are non-scenic. Although artist Hannah Davies illustrated the deck overall, a 23rd major arcana card, titled “Charity”, was specially commissioned from artist Tracey Emin.
