Yeah, we thought the same -- another vampire tarot (*sigh*). Just what the tarot world needed. But Travis McHenry's Vlad Dracula Tarot isn't technically a vampire-themed tarot at all. Instead, it explores the actual historical persona of the infamous "Vlad the Impaler", with references to the time, geography, history, and culture of Vlad III of Wallachia. Each card introduces us to a person of historical interest, or a reference to a notable historical event. The art style evokes a sense of woodcut printing, which adds to the immersive experience of the deck's narrative. The traditional designations for the majors and minors are retained, with the small exception that Wands are renamed, unsurprisingly, as "Stakes". The cards are topped off with gold gilt edging, giving them the feel of a decadent king's treasure.
