Subtitled (or rather, translated from the Latin) as "The Voice of Tarot", the Vox Arcana is a collaborative deck featuring the work images contributed by 82 different artists. In addition to the 78 traditional tarot cards, there are four images representing the four elements -- although these are printed on the fronts and backs of two cards, making for an 80-card / 82-image deck. According to the accompanying booklet by Jaymi Elford and Sally Rose, "[t]he artists worked hard to craft a stand-alone message [which could be] blend[ed] into the chorus which creates Tarot." While not ostensibly a music-themed deck, the idea of tarot as a musical composition is woven into the project's overarching thrust, with the authors likening the result to an operatic work. In fact, the accompanying multi-lingual guide booklet includes a section where artists could supply the name of a composition that was used to inspire their contribution.
